Named for the black blotches that cover its back, the Oregon spotted frog (Rana pretiosa) favours shallow wetlands, where it consumes a steady diet of insects. Unlike most other frogs, its eyes are angled upward, making it easy for it to see above water while remaining almost entirely submerged. Loss of habitat from human activity, invasive organisms and pollutants has put the Oregon spotted frog on Canada’s endangered list.
