Three figure skaters from Team USA competed in the women's individual free skate event at the Milan Cortina Winter Games.

Alysa Liu won historic Olympic gold in Milano Cortina, defeating top challengers Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai in a close finish. After a disappointing short program, Amber Glenn delivered a redemption skate to finish fifth.

Alysa Liu became the first American woman to win an individual figure skating medal at the Olympics in 20 years.

A major drought ended, as Alysa Liu became the first American woman since 2006 to medal in figure skating, and the first since 2002 to win gold. She bested Japan's Kaori Sakamoto (silver) and Ami Nakai (bronze) for the top spot after a flawless free skate.
